She&#8217;s the CEO of SMS Research who designed and interpreted the research behind our new book: <em><a href=\"\/bucket-list\/\">The Bucket List Book<\/a><\/em>. We hired Jeri because after searching online databases, we couldn&#8217;t find any research on the concept.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are we afraid of?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A twenty-something woman I had lunch with shared her perspective with me: <em>&#8220;What if I fail?&#8221;<\/em> she said. <em>&#8220;What if I let myself down?&#8221;<\/em> My coaching: <em>&#8220;How can anyone help you if you won&#8217;t share what&#8217;s on your Bucket List?&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15319\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15319\" style=\"width: 205px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15319\" src=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Unknown-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"193\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15319\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeri Meola is a passionate fundraiser for the Animal Humane Society.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jeri and I confirmed that fear about our Bucket List is not about death.\u00a0More than 400 people participated in our research. Only 7% said their\u00a0Bucket List was about accomplishing certain things before they die. What surprised me that most was that people use their Bucket List for identifying <strong><em>accomplishments<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 including goals or endeavors that require commitment over time: write a book, earn a PhD, starting\/selling a business, or philanthropy. It&#8217;s the career accomplishments that directly connect the Bucket List concept with Good Leadership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other fun\u00a0facts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Men and women are equally likely to have a Bucket List<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15320\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15320\" style=\"width: 170px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15320\" src=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Unknown-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"218\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15320\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeri Meola is a golfer who has &#8220;golf in Scotland&#8221; on her Bucket List.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u25cf 54% of people have their Bucket List \u201cin memory\u201d while 46% have it written down<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf People who are not married (single respondents) are more likely to have something adventurous on their list, like bungee jumping or whitewater rafting<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Empty-nesters (people whose children have moved away) are the most likely to have accomplished significant things on their Bucket List<\/p>\n<p>The rest of Jeri&#8217;s Bucket list is:<\/p>\n<p>1. Golf at a links course in Scotland, 2. See the Pope conduct Easter Mass in Rome, 3. Visit Barbra Streisand\u2019s home, 4. Throw one-dollar bills off the Empire State Building, 5.
