The Program
INSIGHTS—All students are enrolled
in INSIGHTS, the freshmen orientation program, during their first semester at Cumberland College. Through weekly interactive
sessions with a faculty member, two upperclassmen, and 15-20 other freshmen, students are encouraged to discover their strengths
and begin to see themselves as vital members of the college community.
LEAD—The second phase of the program, Leadership
Education and Development, is a foundational seminar designed to identify and hone the skills needed for leadership. The seminar
meets twice a week for one half semesters during the sophomore year.
SERVE—The third phase of the program, Service
Experience Requiring Volunteer Effort, puts into practice the techniques developed during the first two stages. During this
stage students, usually in their junior year, design and complete a 40-hour community service project.
SUCCESS—This
optional component of the program earns the Leadership Citation, and the privilege of requesting a Leadership Service Transcript.
During this phase, students complete at least 200 hours of community service, usually as an extension of their SERVE project.
SUCCESS stands for Service Unifying Cumberland’s Commitment to Equip Students to Succeed.
Continuing Education
As
an extension of the undergraduate leadership and community service program the Hutton Center is now offering a series of seminars
and teleseminars to those outside the college community. These programs are made available to individuals seeking to develop
and refine the skills required to lead.
